A significant part of the cemetery was restored as a starting measure for the necessary renovation efforts in Havasmezo, Romania. The entire front section was enclosed with a new wall and the nearby section of stones restored. The descendants are both rejoicing at this promising progress, and are continuing their fundraising efforts to finance the rest of the needed restoration activities.

After months of long-winding negotiations, HFPJC finally received the necessary permits to begin construction on the Teke cemetery in Romania. The cemetery was enclosed with a new, solid wall and its gravestones erected on poured concrete foundations. HFPJC extends its gratitude to the Jewish Federation of Romania who assisted in the permit process.

Balmazujvarus cemetery property

May 27 2019

A privately owned house built on cemetery property in Balmazujvarus, Hungary, was rightfully returned to the ownership of the descendants, who were concerned with future construction on and around this lot, which will result in desecration of the cemetery. HFPJC guided the descendants through the entire successful ownership transfer.

The cemetery in Sisov, Slovakia was beautifully restored through the sponsorship of the descendants, its property fully fenced with a durable, concrete wall, and its matzevos re-erected atop new, concrete foundations. This marks the tenth project in HFPJC's 2019 restoration season.

Another successful project was completed under the Endowment Program, carried through by the HFPJC and its dedicated staff. The entire site was fully enclosed with a new, concrete wall and the interior was thoroughly cut and cleaned to honor the memory of the pious individuals who are resting within.

The 2019 restoration season went into full swing with the launching of the Mara, Romania cemetery project, the third project in the post-winter construction. This cemetery was beautifully and efficiently restored, with a full concrete wall erected along its borders and the gravestones re-installed on new, concrete foundations.

A violent storm ripped off a part of Presov's old wall, prompting a full reconstruction of that section. A tough and comprehensive building project was undertaken that includes laying a new heavy foundation for the concrete structure, and building the full, poured cement wall.

The ohel of the revered Rabbi Eliezer and his son Rabbi Shlomo Zucker zt"l is being redone beautifully, a project sponsored by the descendants. It is a true inspiration to watch the steady progress of this intricate work, and its completion is being anticipated.
